Recovery through creativity. Art therapy for children who have suffered from the war

“My parents are at war” – these are scary words. However, thousands of Ukrainian kids are separated from their parents today; they live every day with anxiety and fear for their closest ones, who are in constant danger.

To support and facilitate recovery of children whose parents are currently on the frontline and are serving in the armed forces, and of internally displaced children, the Dobrodiy Club has launched a range of art therapy classes. The first groups started at the end of March in Bila Tserkva (Kyiv region).

Professional art therapy is one of the safest ways for children to overcome the effects of stress and anxiety caused by war. It provides a space for creativity, where stability & process are priorities but not the result.

Every Saturday, for 10 weeks, children aged 10 to 14, accompanied by Anna Razumova, a professional art therapist, will be working on the recovery and stabilization of their own conditions. The specialist will help children cope with the emotions and worries caused by fear about their loved ones.

Such classes are aimed to become a safe space where children can be honest, share their thoughts and experiences, express various emotions through creativity and find an inner resource to cope with trauma.

Art therapy sessions are permanent. In order to achieve the most efficient transformations, the full course will be attended by the same group of children.
